Child Death Review Process

From 1st April 2008 there is a statutory requirement for all LSCBs to scrutinise all child deaths in their area. The single point of contact (SPOC) for child deaths in Haringey is Sarah Peel (LSCB) on 020 8489 1472. Please use the Haringey LSCB Webpage to find out more information www.haringey.gov.uk

Key Points

  • Whatever your job in the Trust, or who your clients are, you have a responsibility for protecting children from harm and promoting their welfare.
  • Whenever you have a concern about a child's safety (physical, emotional or sexual), except when immediate action is required, it is always best to discuss this with your line manager, a colleague and/or the Trust Child Protection Advice and Support Team before acting on your concerns.
  • It should be normal practice that you discuss your concerns about a child's safety with their parents/carers, and that referrals to agencies such as 'children and families social services' should be done in their knowledge. If you believe that a child is at risk of harm, you must make a referral to Social Services whether or not you have the parent/carers consent.
  • It is all our responsibility to keep up to date with child protection policy and practice, and child protection training is mandatory training for all staff who come into contact with users. The TPCT and the LSCB provide regular training. For more information, contact the Haringey child protection team on 020 8489 3133 or go to training section
