Expert Patients Programme (EPP)

Self-management of Long-Term Health Conditions

The Expert Patients Programme (EPP) offers training in the self-management of long-term health conditions (e.g. diabetes, asthma, heart disease, back pain, sickle cell or any other long-term condition). EPP courses are available FREE in Haringey throughout the year, in community or health care venues. Each course lasts for 6 weeks, 2.5 hours a week.

The EPP course provides opportunities for people with long-term health conditions to develop new skills to manage their condition better and have a better quality of life. It is facilitated by trained tutors who themselves have experience of living with a limiting long-term health problem. The groups of no more than 18 participants are relaxed and informal. The tutors encourage the sharing of skills and experience in the sessions. Participants set themselves simple ‘action plans’ to increase their confidence in working towards their goals.

Here are some comments from previous participants

My health condition has improved greatly since the EPP. It has been a very beneficial experience. I feel a lot more confident now. I am now more mobile than before and have full confidence in everything I do. I learned to be positive and proactive instead of passive I feel tons better about my life in general and on a daily basis The course was very informative and I'm feeling less isolated now, because other people have problems and cope with them. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to regain my self-confidence and my life back. I would strongly recommend this highly beneficial course to anyone with a long term health condition.
